Middle-earth™ Meets Netball - Magic Host Mystics for Hobbiton™ Cup Decider
The Hobbiton Cup is back on the line this Saturday (21 June) as AVIS Magic take on the Mystics at GLOBOX Arena, Claudelands for their final round robin game in Hamilton this year.
The Hobbiton Cup has been a feature of the ANZ Premiership since 2017, contested each year when the Magic host the Mystics in Hamilton. With the honours evenly split at four wins each, this year’s fixture will tip the balance in what has become a well-loved rivalry.
The stakes are even higher this time. The Mystics edged past Magic 40–38 in a tense battle on Monday. Now, with the Hobbiton Cup on the line, Magic will be fired up to even the score in front of a passionate home crowd.
Mystics claimed the trophy in Round 1 of the 2024 season, and Magic will be looking to bring it home in front of a home crowd.
Shayne Forrest, General Manager Tourism at Hobbiton Movie Set, said they’re proud to continue their support of Magic and the wider netball community.
“The Hobbiton Cup has become a special tradition for us – it’s more than just a match. It’s a great way to acknowledge the connection we’ve built with Magic over the years and support the team on their home court,” he said. “Win or lose, it’s always a night to remember.”
The match will also celebrate Magic’s long-running partnership with Hobbiton Movie Set, with a themed match dress, giveaways, and activations planned to bring a touch of Middle-earth to the arena.
“The Hobbiton Cup adds something special to this match every year” says AVIS Magic Operations Manager Janette Douglas. “There’s always pride at stake when we face the Mystics, and with the series tied four-all, this one feels even more important.”
Centre pass is at 4pm on Saturday, 21 June at GLOBOX Arena, Claudelands. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketek.
