Iconic KFC “Fight For Life” heading to Hamilton

One of New Zealand’s most iconic major events, which has topped TV ratings for more than a decade, is leaving Auckland for the first time.

Hamilton which will play host to the biggest live boxing event on the sporting calendar, KFC “Fight for Life” on Saturday December 6.

The city already has a world class reputation for boxing events when in 2009 it hosted “The Fight of the Century” featuring David Tua versus Shane Cameron in an event that set records which still remain today the benchmark for New Zealand corporate events.

New Zealand’s fastest rising sporting superstar, WBA PABA and WBO Oriental Heavyweight champion Joseph Parker headlines the card against what is likely to be a dangerous international knockout artist who’s undefeated in more than 20 bouts over a five year professional career.

“I am really excited to be heading to Hamilton to continue my journey towards the world heavyweight title”, said Parker.

“I need to finish my year in style against a guy who can bang and I will be training hard for this fight.”

However, Parker could even be upstaged by the biggest Rugby versus League bout in KFC “Fight for Life” History.

Former All Blacks and KFC “Fight for Life” favourite Carlos Spencer will make his professional debut facing former Kiwis and Warriors enforcer Monty Betham in a cruiserweight bout over four 3 minute rounds.

It is a massive step up for Spencer who has previously beaten both Awen Guttenbeil and Jarrod McCracken

Betham’s fearsome reputation is undeniable having consistently been voted the NRL player with whom you would least want to pick a fight.

He also presents a whole new challenge for undefeated Spencer, having previously fought professionally six times including headlining Fight for Life against Shane Cameron in 2011.

Tickets go on sale Friday 19 September and are expected to sell out fast, especially with more big name bouts involving celebrities and sports stars to be revealed in the coming weeks.
